Zamaaan is a collection of photographs from Arab’s personal past gathered from online public archives and private family collections, and shared on Instagram. It’s a collaborative way of sharing  history, and a wistful window to other people’s past; the space you’ll now get to time travel to.

An Evening with Aleph Collective at Bastakiya

Aleph Collective, supported by The Book Shelter, invites you to its official soft launch in an evening of and about words on Friday March 22nd, 2013 at the Sikka Art Fair in Bastakiya, Dubai, UAE.

The event’s main theme is “Power of a Word(s)” in which its objective is to highlight and answer questions like: How many words do you consume per day? Do you think a word has power? Do you think it has the capacity, influence or authority to shape your thoughts, the way you are? What if it does? Media, history, literature, poetry, signboards?

The program will involve a series of activities including a panel discussion, theatrical performances, a documentary film screening, oral story-telling, and a musical performance.

The event will take place on Friday March 22nd, 2013 at Courtyard A, Bastakiya, Dubai, UAE from 4:00 PM until 11:55 PM (Entry to all Sikka events is free)

Want to Stop Smoking? Try the “Shisha Cigarette”!

The latest gadget trending across the region is called the Shisha Cigarette, a contraption that promises to give you the same experience as smoking minus the toxic chemicals and with zero nicotine. I guess you could say that the Shisha Cigarette is a healthy alternative to cigarettes and the conventional shisha/hookah.

The Shisha Cigarette as described by the website is a“revolutionary no nicotine, no tar, no tobacco, first of its kind electronic shisha cigarette. It is portable, disposable and has an amazing flavour for up to 300 puffs…”

Basically instead of the nicotine and harmful chemicals, it produces steam vapour which provides smokers with the same satisfaction but without the dangerous side effects.

We have no idea if this thing actually works, but we’re hoping this new invention will help ease smokers out of their addiction.
