London Bridge Tower Also known as Shard London Bridge, located in the promising London Bridge Quarter of the British capital, it was designed by the world-renowned architect Renzo Piano to become the tallest European building when completed in 2012. This multi-usage facility will include offices and apartments with stunning views. It will also be home to Shangri-La Hotel, and it will feature an observation gallery on top of the tower. Lusail City Occupying 21 km² north of the capital, Lusail was designed to be the ideal city on top of the desert sands. It is a residential and commercial center that will include resorts, markets and an entertainment district. It promises to be a strong competitor to Doha, expecting to welcome 200,000 people. Qatar Railway Project Representing a quality transition in the transport and communication field, the railway project will boost development activities and regional commercial trading. In a partnership between Qatar and the German railway company Deutsche Bahn, the project will be executed in stages beginning in 2012 and ending in 2026. Starting with a railway line between the airport and the heart of the capital, it will also encompass Doha’s underground metro network, light railways linking cities, as well as a freight line across the maritime bridge to Bahrain, and in the future, to the remaining Gulf states. Qatar-Bahrain Causeway (The Friendship Bridge) The Friendship Bridge is the embodiment of the exclusive relationship between the two countries. At its inauguration, it will shorten the 5 hour land trip across the border down to only a half-hour. It spans 40 km, and when completed, it is expected to be the longest maritime bridge in the world! A railway network was recently added to the project’s design. Qatar National Convention Centre The Qatar National Convention Centre will be an environmentally friendly building with an iconic design. Its 40,000 m² space will be the preferred venue for local and regional exhibitions, as well as conventions, concerts and banquets. It is expected to open in 2011.
