Vhils, a Portuguese artist, has been interacting with the urban environment ever since his days as a graffiti writer in the early 2000s. The artist grew up in an industrialized area in Lisbon which has underwent many transformations in the 1980s and 1990s and as a result his work was deeply influenced by these developments.

His famous carving technique came out when he took part in The Cans Festival in 2008 and was part of the “Scratching the Surface” series. His artwork has been presented in festivals and shows around the world and he’s currently working with Lazarides Gallery in the UK where he has been developing the aesthetics of vandalism through different medias.

His technique is unlike any other, he sculptures realistic characters through the walls bringing depth to it. This brilliant artist is not only famous for his carving methods but he does stencil painting and 3D modeling as well. His realistic carvings bring meaning to a regular wall and is definitely a treat for people passing by.
